Berberis x gladwynenesis ‘William Penn:’ ‘William Penn’ Barberry
- leaves evergreen, simple, alternate, lanceolate leaves with spined margins
- leaves 1-2" long and about 1/3 as wide; leaves appear in clusters at nodes, but are not whorled, are alternate
- upper leaf surfaces somewhat textured, but glabrous
- pairs of long thorns (1-1.5" long) at nodes
- height and width 3-5'
- flowers not significant
- prefers full sun, and tolerant of many soil types
- slow to medium growth rate
