Berberis x gladwynenesis ‘William Penn:’ ‘William Penn’ Barberry

  • leaves evergreen, simple, alternate, lanceolate leaves with spined margins
  • leaves 1-2" long and about 1/3 as wide; leaves appear in clusters at nodes, but are not whorled, are alternate
  • upper leaf surfaces somewhat textured, but glabrous
  • pairs of long thorns (1-1.5" long) at nodes
  • height and width 3-5'
  • flowers not significant
  • prefers full sun, and tolerant of many soil types
  • slow to medium growth rate
