- flowers are yellow, somewhat lemon-scented, in tall flowering spikes in second year--open in evening; close by morning
- flower petal tips are blunt or with a notch in them at the tip
- produces many seeds in 1" long, cigar-like fruit; in the Evening Primrose (Onagraceae) Family
- prefers full sun, moist to wet soils
- sometimes included in wildflower seed mixtures
