Common Evening Primrose, Biennial Evening Primrose:

  • a biennial weed with first year growth a rosette of long, lanceolate leaves, often with orangish or reddish tints to them
  • flowers are yellow, somewhat lemon-scented, in tall flowering spikes in second year--open in evening; close by morning
  • flower petal tips are blunt or with a notch in them at the tip
  • produces many seeds in 1" long, cigar-like fruit; in the Evening Primrose (Onagraceae) Family
  • prefers full sun, moist to wet soils
  • sometimes included in wildflower seed mixtures
