- leaves alternate, deciduous, simple, oblong obovate, 1-1/5" long, with round-pointed tip of leaf; green above; lighter underneath
- stems dark brown to purplish, thin
- flowers are rose-pink and tiny, but in large terminal panicles 4-8 inches tall
- grows 3-6' tall and 2/3 to as wide in an upright oval shrub with new sprouts from base annually
- prefers full sun and moist, well-drained soils; prefers colder climates, although does “OK" in Springifeld area
- medium growth rate
