Location on campus: near southeast door of Karls Hall

  • Deciduous, alternate (arising from the ground), glabrous, variegated trifoliate leaves with serrated margins on leaflets; leaflets about 2" long and 1/2 as wide
  • Flowers in flat-topped umbels in late spring--not too showy
  • Plant spreads by creeping roots to form solid groundcover about 6-12" above ground; may spread into adjacent turf or other planting beds if solid border is not used to contain it
  • May die back in hot or dry summers, but usually recovers in fall
  • Good for part-sun to light shade areas with adequate moisture and fertile soil
