Acer negundo: Boxelder
- leaves pinnately compound (with 5 leaflets) or trifoliate, opposite, bright green (variegated on one cultivar)
- fast-growing native tree to about 3-40’ tall; fairly weak-wooded
- stems bright green for 1-2 years; bark light brown, furrowed with age
- prefers moist, well-drained soils--found often in riparian areas, but also tolerant of urban conditions and can be an urban weed tree
- not used much in landscaping, but can be kept if already present, if limitations are acceptable
- native to Missouri
