Cheat:
- Similar to downy brome except seedlings have shorter ligule and are less hairy
- Mature plant has less hair on leaf blade and almost hairless leaf sheath
- Inflorescences a little less droopy than downy brome, and spikelets are fatter with shorter awns than downy brome
