- leaves simple, opposite, deciduous, dark green with serrate margins, ovate; about 2-4" long and 1/2 as wide
- stem is brown with peeling bark and aerial roots for attaching to climbing surfaces
- bark on older vines continues peeling habit--very attractive
- grows to 60-80’ in height where well established; slow growth rate initially, but fast after established
- has flat-topped corymbs of flowers in late spring to early summer with sweet fragrance
- prefers fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade--best in part shade here
