Abelia x grandiflora: Glossy Abelia
- leaves semi-evergreen to evergreen, simple, opposite, ovate to lanceolate with slight scalloping on edges (cuneate margins); dark glossy green to reddish green in color and 1-2" long and about 1/3 as wide
- stems very slender, reddish brown or reddish purple, older bark peeling in slender threads to expose lighter inner bark
- flowers whitish-pink, funnel shaped in terminal clusters, blooming May through frost
- size is 3-6' tall and wide, smaller with dwarf cultivars
- grows in full sun to half shade, prefers acid, moist, well-drained soils, but somewhat adaptable
- medium to fast growth rate (on species and larger growing cultivars)
- Abelia x grandiflora ‘Sherwood:’ Dwarf Abelia, Dwarf Glossy Abelia
- same as species, except smaller growing (3' x 3') and slow to medium growth rate
