Fall Panicum:

  • warm-season, annual grass; also called panic grass
  • has semi-spreading to upright growth habit, 1-3’ tall
  • has open panicle, with flowers/seeds only toward tips of flower branchlets
  • prefers deep, fertile, moist soils, but adaptable
  • has deep, aggressive root system; hard to pull or till mature plants
  • prefers acid and moist soils (other names for it are swamp grass and sour grass)
  • is a problem in corn, soybeans, cotton, vegetables and other summer annual crops
