Field Pennycress:

  • cool season annual/winter annual with first year growth of oval leaves with rounded tips and distinct petiole
  • second year stalk grows 6-24" tall and produce white flowers followed by flat, rouned pods (siliques) with notch at tip
  • stem has bad odor if bruised
  • can be toxic to livestock in sufficient amounts are consumed
  • found in many cool season crops--serious pest in small grains
  • native perforated pennycress is similar, but much smaller--only 4-8" tall
  • commonly found in open and warm-season turf
