Field Speedwell:

  • Often first to begin flowering in mid to late winter, with larger flowers than the later-flowering corn speedwell (which produces flowers mainly in terminal spike-like inflorescences, with reduced leaves or bracts between leaves)
  • Small leaves(1/4-1/2" diameter) with some hairs, flowers deep blue or blue & white, flower stalk length is about equal to the flower diameter
  • Flowers are smaller, and on shorter stalks (peduncles) than persian speedwell, (which has larger leaves and flowers, and longer flower stalks)
