- creeping perennial that produces stolons in the Lamiaceae (Mint) family
- leaves opposite, rounded (about 1" diameter) with rounded lobes
- produces spikes of attractive purple flowers in late fall or spring
- prefers shady, cool sites, with adequate moisture but may grow anywhere
- spreads rapidly once present in a lawn
