  • has simple, deciduous, alternate, dark-green, oval to heart-shaped leaves 3-6" long and 3-4" wide with pointed tips that are often white, pink or silvery in appearance; leaves have serrate margins and smooth upper surfaces, with some hairs on underside or on under midrib
  • stems are smooth, brown, with many lenticels, slightly swollen at the nodes, with brown, chambered pith
  • grows 15 to 20 feet long/tall and climbs by twining around objects
  • flowers are white, fragrant, about 1/2 inch diameter in clusters of 1-3 in axils of leaves in May-June
  • fruit is an egg-shaped or oval yellow-green, fleshy berry fruit that is edible
  • native to Asia
