Viburnum rhytidophyllum: Leatherleaf Viburnum

  • leaves mostly evergreen, opposite, simple, dark green, ovate-lanceolate 3-7" long and about 1/3 as wide; leaves shiny and rough textured above and gray to yellow and very pubescent underneath
  • stems gray to yellow brown with much pubescence when young, older stems more gray-brown and glabrous
  • size is 10-15' tall and wide, coarse textured upright oval growing plant
  • flowers are yellow-white in terminal clusters in mid spring, followed by red drupes which turn to black by early fall
  • prefers full shade to part sun and moist, well-drained soil
  • medium growth rate
