Carya tomentosa: Mockernut Hickory, White Hickory
- similar in appearance to pignut hickory in leaves and bark, but nut is in a large, thick husk like shagbark hickory and actual nut is small
- twigs are pubescent when young and buds are more orange than other hickories
- bark is diamond-pattern ridged
- grows 50-60' tall and 1/3 as wide
- prefers well-drained, upland wooded areas
- medium growth rate
- native to Missouri
