Acer myabei; Miyabe Maple
- leaves opposite, deciduous, simple, palmately 5 lobed; dark green above, and pubescent underneath; petioles pubescent with milky sap; leaves 4-6" wide and almost equally long similar to Acer campestre, but larger, more pointed lobes
- stems brown, shiny, angled
- bark gray, scaly in long strips
- grows 30-40 feet tall and 2 to 2/3 as wide-- upright oval shape
- samara is pubescent on outside, like Acer campestre
- prefers full sun to part shade, moist, well-drained, high organic matter soil, but fairly adaptable, except to dry soils
- slow to medium growth rate
- similar to Acer campestre, hedge maple
