Hydrangea paniculata: Panicle Hydrangea, PeeGee Hydrangea
- leaves opposite, deciduous, ovate with serrated margins; 3-6" long and 1/3 as wide; dark green above and pubescent underneath
- stems stout, reddish-brown with gray vertical streaks or peeling bark in older twigs
- grows 10-20' tall and wide
- flowers are white changing to purplish pink in mid summer to mid fall in upright terminal panicles with mostly fertile flowers
- flowers on new growth (current season’s wood)
- prefers full sun to partial shade in moist-well-drained soils; most cold hardy of hydrangeas
- fast growth rate
