Broussonetia papyrifera: Paper Mulberry

  • leaves alternate, deciduous, simple, polymorphic, general ovate shape, but sometimes with 2-3 lobes; thin, pubescent and rough-textured
  • stems stout, gray-green, to gray-brown, pubescent
  • bark gray-brown, shallowly ridged
  • dioecious--fruit is red-orange, rounded aggregate of drupes (fleshy), like a small hedge-apple
  • grows 40-50’ tall and equally wide
  • tolerant of most soils
  • medium to fast growth rate
