  • leaves alternate, deciduous, pinnately compound with 5-7 leaflets, usually 5
  • leaflets 3-6.5" long and 1/2 as wide with terminal 3 leaflets the largest
  • bark smooth on young trees, developing into diamond patterned ridges with age
  • grows 50-60' tall and 25' wide
  • fruit is pear-shaped, 0.75 - 1.5" diameter; husk splits into 4 pieces and nut is ovate with sweet to bitter taste
  • medium growth rate
  • very good yellow fall foliage color
  • prefers well-drained to dry but fertile soils
  • native to Missouri
