Rat-tail Fescue:

  • Cool-season annual grass with very slender upright stems and leaves, grows 4-12 inches tall
  • Not a true fescue grass
  • Leaves soft, slender, light-green to gray green without hairs
  • Inflorescence is a long, spike-like, feathery compressed panicle
  • Found in dry and infertile soils as well as some compacted soil sites
