Red-Stem Filaree:
- winter annual or biennial in the Geraniaceae (Geranium) family
- has long, pinnately divided (fernlike) leaves that hug the ground in first year rosette-- rosette is about 4-8 inches in diameter
- leaves dark-green, stems reddish-pink
- second year has ascending stalks with clusters of purplish-pink flowers at top in spring
- seed pods are pointed with a spiraled “tail"
- can be found in lawns, perennial crops, pastures--prefers sandy soils, but can grow anywhere
- increasing in southwest Missouri
