Scarlet gaura:

  • a lower-growing, much-branched simple perennial with smaller, pubescent leaves, compared to biennial gaura
  • native to Midwest prairies and great plains
  • flowers pink to red in dense terminal racemes--usually only a few open at one time
  • not palatable to livestock, but consumed by wildlife
  • not usually much of a problem as a weed
