Location near campus: several species/cultivars of Sedum can be found in the Xeriscape Garden, located about 3/4 mile south of campus, at the corner of National Avenue and Linwood.
- succulent-leaved, herbaceous perennial groundcovers
- usually have opposite leaves, which may be rounded, lanceolate or thickened and needle-like, depending on the species
- flowers are white, yellow or red
- spreads by rooting at the nodes of long, trailing stems
- most prefer well-drained, fertile soil on full-sun sites, but some yellow-flowered types tolerate light to moderate shade
- very easy to propagate and may spread by rooting of just a single leaf
