  • spreading winter or summer annual with many branches and larger, trifoliate leaves with serrated edges and a purplish mark in the center of the leaflets
  • stems hairy, flowers yellow in clusters at leaf axils
  • fruit is bur-like
  • found in lawns, cultivated crops, disturbed sites; more common in southern U.S.
