Tansy:

  • creeping perennial plant with pinnately lobed, bright, dark-green toothed leaves growing 2-5 feet tall
  • produces colonies by spread of creeping roots
  • flowers are yellow, disk-type only, in terminal flat-topped clusters of mature plants
  • plant has typical medicinal “tansy" odor
  • can be toxic to livestock
  • can be invasive in fertile, well-drained soils with adequate moisture
  • more of a weed problem in northern U.S., Europe than in southwest Missouri
