  • warm-season perennial bunch grass with large, branched panicles
  • foliage is light green, with flattened stem bases and folded leaves
  • found in fertile, well-drained to dry soils; can tolerate fairly close mowing
  • not long-lived nor deep rooted, so not good for permanent sods
