- warm-season, clump-forming grass with thin, blue-green leaves that grow 2-3 feet tall
- has large open, panicles with tiny flower cluster that are silvery-blue-green to whitish in color that are on stems 3-4 feet tall
- leaves and inflorescences sway in the breeze (hence the name)
- prefers dry, well-drained soils, for more compact growth
- winter color is tan-gray
- native to southeastern U.S.
