Yellow Toadflax:

  • creeping perennial with creeping roots; grows 6-24" high on unbranched stems with 1-2" long linear leaves
  • flowers are yellow, snapdragon-like and quite showy
  • can form dense colonies rather quickly in fertile, well-drained soils
  • introduced as an ornamental, but invasive into pastures and rangelands and may be mildly poisonous to livestock
  • similar species, Dalmatian Toadflax grows larger, has larger flowers and more oval-pointed leaves (compared to more rounded-linear leaves of yellow toadflax)
  • leaves and colony formation of yellow toadflax may appear similar to Cypress Spurge, but cypress spurge has milky sap and lacks the showy snapdragon-like flowers
