Blackseed Plantain:

  • rosette forming, simple perennial with fibrous root systems
  • leaves oval, narrowing near attachment to crown
  • larger leaves, purplish leaf base = blackseed plantain
  • smaller leaves, green leaf base = common broadleaf plantain
  • flowers all along an upright spike (not clustered as with buckhorn plantain)
  • blooms spring to early summer
  • reproduces readily by seed
