Field Violet, Field Pansy (Viola rafinesquii):

  • winter annual in turf and landscapes with tiny spatula-shaped leaves with palmately-lobed stipules in the Violaceae (Violet) family
  • flowers are pale blue & white or blue & yellow
  • grows only 3-5 inches tall
  • more common in dormant, warm-season turfgrasses; also in cultivated fields, disturbed sites
  • similar european field pansy has larger, more shallowly-lobed leaves and larger, more yellow flowers
