Mouseear Chickweed:

  • a prostrate growing simple perennial with hairy, opposite oval leaves in the Caryophyllaceae (Pink) family
  • small white, 5-petaled flowers at stem tips in summer through fall; petals are slightly notched or notched to about 1/2 their length.
  • prefers cool, moist, fertile sites
  • is shade tolerant, but can grow in full sun
  • similar species, common chickweed, is a cool-season annual with semi-succulent stems and leaves and the 5 petals are deeply-notched to appear like 10 petals
