Aesculus glabra: Ohio Buckeye

  • leaves opposite, deciduous, palmately compound with 5-7 leaflets-- similar to red buckeye; twigs, leaf size similar to red buckeye
  • grows 20-40' tall in rounded outline-- larger than red buckeye
  • differs in having greenish-yellow flowers
  • has large, rounded fruit with thick, tan leathery covering with short spines on covering, surrounding usually one large, smooth brown nutlet; seeds are toxic
  • native to Missouri
