  • summer annual twining vine with hairless, reddish, ridged stems
  • flowers, small, bright red in axils of leaves
  • leaves are either heart-shaped, or sometimes 3-5 lobed (like pitted morningglory or ivyleaf morningglory)
  • egg-shaped to rounded, angular seed pod
  • found in drier soils; native to southwestern U.S.
