Spiny Cocklebur: (not in Weeds of the Great Plains; pp. 166-167, Weeds of the Northeast)

  • has elongated, shiny, lobed leaves (like an oak leaf) with bright white veins
  • has 3 long spines at each node
  • fruit is like common cocklebur, but without two pointed “beaks" at tip of common cocklebur “bur"
  • is found in localized areas in row crops
