Field and Research Plantings
Pine Pond
Pine Pond is located on the north side of the 180 acre research and demonstration field area at the Fruit Experiment Station at Mountain Grove. The pond is used in environmental education projects and serves as a fishing spot to catch bass. Pine Pond is a haven for many species of birds. Birdwatchers can enjoy viewing waterfowl, wading birds and shorebirds. The pond was used for irrigation in the 1970's, but now all irrigation systems for the research and demonstration plantings are supplied from the centrally located well. Pine trees line the western, southern and eastern rim of the pond while the flat northern boundary recedes during dry periods and advances during wet periods.
